The Family Center at Highlands School is an early childhood program caring for children ages 6 weeks to 3 years. We seek to hire a full-time teacher with an adventurous spirit, a passion for nurturing curiosity in young children and strong background in early childhood education and development.

The ideal candidate is a team player and positive thinker, models an honorable work ethic and can-do attitude, genuinely loves caring for young children, and possesses strong communication skills.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Planning and implementing age and developmentally-appropriate classroom practices that include the areas of physical, emotional, social and cognitive/intellectual needs of children
  • Utilizing early childhood educational best practices
  • Accepting and maintaining responsibility on a daily basis for the ordered arrangement, appearance, and cleanliness of the learning environment
  • Completing weekly lesson plans and maintaining a portfolio for each student
  • Encouraging children’s development in the areas of building self-confidence, problem-solving, and taking responsibility for their actions
  • Fostering and building meaningful relationships with each child daily through circle time, centers, snacks, lunchtime, playground, etc.
  • Consistently and lovingly teaching developmentally appropriate classroom behaviors
  • Building positive, informative, and communicative relationships with parents and caregivers
  • Working with courtesy, tact, and diplomacy in dealing with others and collaborating as part of a team
  • Being an active and integral part of the Highlands Community by fostering relationships with other teachers and staff at all grade levels and in all departments
  • Exhibiting a growth mindset in the area of professional learning and development
  • Understanding, accepting, and abiding by the School’s philosophy and mission statement in all school activities

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • (Preferred but not required) Degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development Degree
  • Knowledge of and preferred experience teaching a nationally recognized early childhood curriculum (ex: Creative Curriculum) as well as NAEYC curricular guidelines
  • 2+ years experience in a quality Early Childhood program
  • DHR background clearance 
  • Exhibit strong organizational skills, verbal and written communication ability, and creativity
  • Possess strong time management skills
  • Maintain certification in First Aid and CPR
  • Show strong interpersonal and leadership skills, possessing initiative, flexibility, responsiveness, and nimbleness
  • Must be able to successfully perform the essential functions of the position
